My Top 10 Wrestling Valentine's

Hi guys,

Today is Valentine's Day if any of you didn't notice from all those soppy Facebook posts, shop displays and adverts on the television. For those of you who didn't guess, I'm single again this year but I'm not bitter - nope.

So, instead of moping in my usual way, I thought I’d write a more light hearted post for all you today! I delved into the world of my favourite wrestlers and had to pick only 10 for this list. It's the wrestlers who are so adorable and make my lack of a relationship seem less heartbreaking *cue audience sympathy*. Because I don’t have a special guy in my life, I thought I’d write about the only guys who matter and that’s all my special wrestling boys who always make me smile. I mean who needs a boyfriend anyway... not me!

Just a note, this post is no way meant to be serious, demeaning and in anyway objectifying any of the male wrestlers on this list because I really respect as both people and athletes, it's just for a bit of fun!

Sho and Yoh (Roppongi 3k)

Okay, so this might be a cop out because I’m counting the two Roppongi 3K boys in one but I couldn’t have one without the other because they’re two halves of a whole. The Gold and Silver Standard of Professional Wrestling are literally the two most adorable smol beans New Japan has in my opinion (and yes, I do know that both men are in their 30s). When they both come out of the curtain, especially with Yoh, they have this innocence about them as the walk down the ramp with their bright metallic ring gear dancing and singing along to their theme tune. However, as soon as that bell rings, something changes about them and they become major bad asses! Then, in the post match comments, they become even cuter whether it's not understand Rocky so just replying with 'yes', hugging their teammates or the little hand gestures Yoh does. On top of that, Sho seems to be a master at every style of martial arts and looks great in a white robe and Yoh is an artist who dresses like a cool hipster. Even though they really are the antithesis of each other, they are a perfect combination together with beauty, brains and brawn. Also, from personal experience, they are such nice guys (it also helps that Yoh liked my Converse's) who literally radiate sunshine with their beautiful smiles and that's the most beautiful thing a man can have.

Yuki Ueno

When I first watched DDT and saw Yuki Ueno, the first thing that came to my mind was that this guy looked just like a Disney Prince. He’s tall, lean, muscular and duh, he’s just so adorable and handsome in those little white trunks. He's got this classic boyband hairstyle that perfectly flicks even after a long, gruelling match and never has a strand out of place. When he’s in the ring, he’s like a little fire cracker zooming across the ring at the speed of lightening and giving a good beating to anyone in his path. However, he’s also just a smol ball of fluff really and this is really on show in some of the DDTBoyz shows. From some of his reactions during matches and press conferences, his smile just lights up any room and it melts my heart really and makes it all warm (which makes a change from it’s normal Ice Queen state). I think I've actually lost track of the number of his matches online with comments that agree with me. If you were to ask me to describe what my dream guy would look like, it would probably be Ueno. I would easily introduce him to my family because I think he’d make a really caring and adorable boyfriend.

Zack Sabre Jr

I couldn't do this list without my favourite Socialist Vegan Hydra could I? In reality, Zack Sabre Jr probably thinks Valentine's day is just a Capitalist creation and I would actually have to agree with him (not just because I never get anything myself). For me, ZSJ is a what a proper British guy should be just obviously not an upper class Tory. He has a really eloquent and colourful vocabulary that probably baffles a lot of American viewers, a simple and sophisticated style of wrestling and, like me, he cares about animals not people. Also, despite what anyone says, Zack is a good looking guy with a very 2000s boyband hairstyle and amazing dress sense which is also understated and trendy. I think Zack's personality is a lot like his wrestling style in the sense that it's very simple and understated but is so effective and shines without being too flashy. He's a simple person who enjoys the simple things in life from having fun, a cold G&T, petting dogs and trying to bring down the British establishment and Boris Johnson - what else could you want?

Tetsuya Endo

There are so many things that put Damnation’s Tetsuya Endo on this list. Whether it’s cool demeanour, effortless ability to show off in the ring or his beautiful body (honestly, it resembles the Michelangelo), there is nothing this man doesn’t have or can’t do. I mean the guy literally goes to the ring and just casually does the splits as a warm up as his opponent walks on as if it's nothing. When I first saw Endo on DDT, there was this air of mystery about him and it was almost like he didn't want to give anything away and was really closed off. For me, Tetsuya Endo is like that bad boy everyone at school wants to date but is so distant it makes you want him more. However, as I've watched more and more of him in matches and interviews, I realised that this is just a disguise. In reality, Tetsuya Endo is a massive cutie pie from top to bottom. Whether it's he's laughing at something one of his Damnation buddies are doing, flicking his picture perfect hair or trying to get Soma Takao to give him a lil' kiss, it's a complete 180 degree turn from the person you assume he is when he comes out looking all moody and handsome.

Hiroshi Tanahashi

In one way, this is slightly weird because the Ace of the Universe is old enough to be my dad, but time has blessed Hiroshi Tanahashi and made him look better with age, a bit like a fine wine. With his long locks and just this intoxicating charisma, he is not just the Ace of New Japan or the Ace of the Universe, he is the Ace in our hearts no matter whether you're a woman or a man. The funny thing is that Tanahashi is probably very aware that he's a major hunk from the way he saunters to the ring and slowly takes off his ring jacket. But, for some reason, it just seems so innocent and not like a dick if you get me? Humble, that's the word for Tanahashi, he is humble in every way and it just radiates off him. This is even before he gets in the ring and manages to just capture an audience from the second the bell rings with his talent and those little nuances which are fundamentally Tana like the air guitar or the flick of his hair, hair which stays perfect until the moment he leaves the ring. He is a man of the people and the people love Tanahashi as much as I do! Also, he has a really cute dog which is always a bonus.

Soma Takao

I was really conflicted about whether to put another Damnation member on the list but, after watching a DDT show, I knew I had too. Soma Takao is definitely one of the more understated and underrated members of the DDT Roster in every way and sometimes blends into the background, especially amongst his more outgoing and colourful Damnation stable mates. However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't take notice of Takao. With his black and red hair, it's a danger warning to all of his opponents in the ring but also a really attractive combination with his ring gear. I feel like, if I had wrestling attire, it would be those colours because they are flattering, understated and sexy. When Soma comes to the ring, his personality also seems quite reserved. However, he also has this subtle charisma that appears in matches whether it's teaming up with someone and then betraying them or his aversion to Damnation kisses. Also, when Takao does decide to give us a smile, it's like an angel that is lighting up a dark tunnel - I mean honestly it's one of the purest in wrestling. 

(Hangman) Adam Page

I mean this one is pretty self explanatory and is probably one of the universal things that wrestling fans can agree on: Hangman Page is a handsome hunk. I know it, you know and Adam Page definitely knows it. All Elite Wrestling's resident cowboy has it all from the amazing physique, the luscious locks and your typical gentleman's Southern accent. If someone were to ask you what you thought a wrestler should look like then Page fits the bill perfectly looking like a blend between a wrestler and Roman gladiator. So, with so much handsome-ness in one person, you can imagine my feelings when Hangman and Tanahashi met in the G1 because Page got it spot on, it was a Handsome Battle. Like Tanahashi, Page comes out of every match looking as good as when the bell rang. However, the biggest thing for me is the brains Page has. I don't know much about the US education system but I do know that he flew through his studies qualifying to be a teacher in record time. The fact that Page used to be a teacher completely blows my mind, mainly because I don't understand how anyone could fully concentrate at all. However, our resident cowboy has a heart of gold which is all that matters.

Kazuchika Okada

This entry on the list is a combination of my own choice and input from my mum who was also adamant that the 5-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion should make the list. Okada is one of those guys that spreads through the spectrum of what a perfect guy should be. On one hand, he can come across as really sexy and intense when he's fighting having this passion and desire to win and prove why he is the best in the world. Then, with a flick of a switch, he can become this adorable smol puppy that you just want to protect by any means possible or even a little bit crazy carrying around balloons with bright red hair. Everything Okada does in the ring is over the top, yet he seems to be understated and almost has this innocence about him outside of it. It's like we get to see two completely different Okada's and both as amazing as each other in different ways. On top of all that, he just seems like a really nice guy and so much fun which we've seen from drunk Okada videos on the internet! Whether he's wearing pants, shorts or trunks, the Rainmaker will definitely be on the top of many wrestling fans crush's and is it any surprise?

 

Johnny Gargano

   I feel conflicted writing this because we all know his heart belongs to the one and only Candice LeRae (and I really just want the two of them to adopt me), but this isn't serious so I'm going to do it anyway. For me, there is one big reason why Mr Gargano is on this list: DISNEY. Honestly, I don't think I have ever seen a person, never mind a man, who loves Disney as much as I do. From the regular visits to the park, the merchandise and even getting married at Disney, Gargano is the literal epitome of a fanboy. It also means that he still has this child's innocence about him. On top of that, Johnny is just a little geek and I really think that's so adorable. Not many guys embrace their oddities and passion for things like he does and it's really refreshing. Also, he's quite easy on the eye's as well which is just an added bonus. However, for me, Johnny Gargano just seems like the most down to earth guy in the world and I would happily be his best friend or, if they take the offer, the adopted daughter of him and Candice (who is one of my favourite wrestlers ever).

So, that's my list done and hopefully you agree with me and my picks, but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Just another quick note, for those eagle-eyed among you, you would have noticed that Jay White is not on this list. It was a difficult decision but, like I said, this is a light hearted post and there was something about the Switchblade that didn't let me put him on a list like this. However, he's still my bias (as they say in K-Pop) so don't worry about that! I also want to do a few special shoutouts for guys that lost out on a place on the list by a thread: DDT's Akito, MAO, Tony Nese, Dolph Ziggler and my mum's choice of Kenta. 
Hopefully you guys enjoyed this post and, from now on, I'm going to try and be a lot more regular with these posts - it's just been a hectic few weeks. Like I said earlier, this list isn't meant to be anything serious and is more of a way to make me feel better on Valentine's Day so please don't attack me for it (unless you think I've missed someone off the list).
