Top Wrestling MVPs 2020

Hi guys, How crazy has 2020 has been? With everything going on in the world, it seems as if 2021 couldn't come any sooner. However, even with all of this negativity, I think it's vital to try and find some positives.  Despite conditions making it hard for the wrestling industry, many companies have thrived during the pandemic. In particular, some wrestlers have managed to make the best out of a bad situation and continue trying to put on shows for fans whether in person or through streaming sites.  To mark the end of another year, I'm back with my annual wrestling MVP list of the wrestlers who have stood out this year. Just a quick note, most of the stuff I've watched this year is Japanese wrestling (NJPW, DDT and TJPW)! Yuka Sakazaki 2020 has been a great year for in the sense that I've had the time to fully get into Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. For me, it's something I regret not doing earlier because it is full of some amazing wrestlers from Miu, Miyu Yamashita...

Heavyweight v Jr Heavyweight

Image
Hi guys, I've been watching wrestling for around 3 and a half years but it wasn't until the Cruiserweight Classic where I started to become more aware about different divisions in different companies. For wrestlers under a specific weight limit, Cruiserweights is the term used by most companies for wrestlers but in Japan they're known as Junior heavyweights. Each company also has a different weight classification but that doesn't mean you're restricted to being a Jr/ Cruiserweight if you're under this limit as seen by Kota Ibushi, Young Bucks, Finn Balor etc - you just can't be part of the division if you're over. So, if that's the basics then why am I writing this post? It all links to something Marty Scurll said in the Best of Super Junior Conference in May (cast your little minds back): "I'm dedicated to making this junior division the best in the world. I hate the idea that this Jr division is less than and the fact that peo...

2018 Wrestling MVP's

Image
Hi guys, First of all, Merry Christmas. Secondly, what a year 2018 has been for wrestling - there's been ups and downs but in the end of it, without wrestling, my life would've been very different. Wrestling really isn't what it is without the wrestlers themselves and there's been some right stand outs this year so here's my list of MVP's who have really stood out for me in a business that's full of so much talent! 1. Jay White Me and this blog have made no secret of the fact that Jay White is probably my favourite wrestler but it's not just my bias that's put him no.1 on this list - he's had a hell of a 2018! After coming back from excursion and losing his match against Tanahashi for the IC belt, he got back on course by joining Chaos and then beating Kenny Omega for the US title on the 28th January which he had great defences with against likes of Hangman Page and David Finlay. Even after losing the title, with the likes of the G1 wins ...

100 Episodes of 205 Live

Image
Hi guys, It seems like only yesterday that I was trying to prove to the world that 205 Live was the best hour on television. Fast forward 100 episodes, and Triple H taking over the booking, and it seems like the world is finally realising what I always knew: the wrestlers on 205 Live put on some of the best matches in WWE. Maybe all it took was a change in management, a focus on the wrestling and a certain wrestler being released for this to happen. I mean 205 Live was always amazing but it maybe just needed a little push and some proper investment. So, today I'm going to be looking at the last 100 episodes and see the development of the show and what's making it so successful and best kept secret of WWE.  When the Cruiserweights started off on Raw, and eventually got their own show in 205 Live, there was high expectations for it to be amazing, especially considering the high standard of wrestling we'd seen in the Cruiserweight Classic. There was great promise an...

Wrestlemania 34 Reactions *spoilers*

Image
Hi guys, Another year, another Wrestlemania and another mixed set of matches and results. I normally do this sort of thing match by match but I'm finding it monotonous so I am trying something different - maybe it'll work, maybe it won't. Overall, I think that this year's WM was alright. There were some amazing matches, there were some meh matches, there were some good booking and there was some awful bookings of the superstars.  The Pre-Show The disappointment of the pre-show only came from the messy Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal because the CW championship and Women's Battle Royal was very good for a pre-show. The women's match was filled with rivalries and stories from the use of Paige on commentary to the NXT girls teaming together and giving the main roster women a run for their money. I was so happy and surprised that Naomi won but it was well deserved and could be the start of another push. I also can't praise Cedric Alexander an...

A New 205 Live?

Image
Hi guys, The last few weeks have been monumental for the 205 Live roster and it seems as if the company are finally going to give these superstars a chance. With the announcement sof Drake Maverick (Rockstar Spud) as new 205 Live GM and Triple H taking over the brand, it feels as if we're at a turning point where people will actually see how much these wrestlers can do. After the whole debacle with losing our good ol' King Nev and the whole Enzo Amore scandal, the Cruiserweights needed a new and fresh start and I think it's working! I've always been a fan of 205 Live and I'm not alone because there's an entire fandom population who are devoted to this brand and see talent oozing out in buckets. Unfortunately, that's not been the case with WWE and many of the audiences. I mean it was bad enough that the boys were getting 'this is boring' chants or having people leave before the show (which is ironic because I only bought SD Live tickets...

Enzo more like Enz-No

Image
Hi guys, After last nights Raw, I suddenly got really angry and I didn't really know who to vent too so obviously I turned to the internet. After the horror of Neville losing his Cruiserweight title to Enzo Amore, I didn't know what rubbish WWE were going to give us with the Cruiserweights and 205 Live - probably my favourite part of the wrestling week. Well thank you for not disappointing me WWE and managing to both impress and piss me off at the same time.  The show started off pretty normal with Enzo wanting a celebration without interruption or bodily contact - it showed that, even from the start, there was clear aggravation within the division. Then Enzo came out and started running his mouth as per usual and once again, he has managed to offend superstars and some of the 205 Live Universe *those like me obsessed with 205 Live*. Yes, I understand its a promo that was given to Enzo but he would've had a lot of lee way and probably would've said some of ...

My Cruiser-Greats!

Image
Hey guys, My Wednesday mornings consist of watching Smackdown and then getting excited to see my Cruiser-babes on 205 Live after the too short matches they have on RAW! I'm one of the few people who can happily say that 205 Live is the best hour on television and there isn't one thing I hate, the stars and the presenters are perfect and everything I wanted - even if a lot of people may not agree with me.  For me, the superstars themselves are the reason I'm so invested in this Division and I don't think there's another roster where I pretty much love the entire roster so this post was hard to do. Welcome to Sonal's top 5 Cruiserweight superstars!! (I am excluding Neville because he wasn't brought in just for 205 Live but he is one of the best) TJP (or TJ Perkins) The first ever Cruiserweight champion (in this era) and probably one of my favourite EVER superstars! TJ's character is really fun and easy to get behind whether he's a lo...

How to Help the Cruiserweight Division

Image
Hey guys, 205 Live and the Cruiserweight division has been up and running for pretty much a solid year and something that started with loads of momentum. Unfortunately, it's not stayed and it's only a fare few hardcore CW fans (like me) who seem to be fully invested and interested in this amazing division. I don't think it's anything to do with the superstars themselves that go out, night after night, and before to the best of their ability because they are some of the best competitors out there. It's not there fault that there's a lack of a connection between them and the fans, it's WWE's and they need to sort it! But how? 1. Better character development We have some great characters in this division from Gentleman Jack and the Wizard of Odd Brian Kendrick whose persona just leaks out. But what about those stars who haven't decided on a niche? Well WWE have already ruined a good lot of 205 Live stars with their character development or...
