Top Wrestling MVPs 2020

Hi guys, How crazy has 2020 has been? With everything going on in the world, it seems as if 2021 couldn't come any sooner. However, even with all of this negativity, I think it's vital to try and find some positives.  Despite conditions making it hard for the wrestling industry, many companies have thrived during the pandemic. In particular, some wrestlers have managed to make the best out of a bad situation and continue trying to put on shows for fans whether in person or through streaming sites.  To mark the end of another year, I'm back with my annual wrestling MVP list of the wrestlers who have stood out this year. Just a quick note, most of the stuff I've watched this year is Japanese wrestling (NJPW, DDT and TJPW)! Yuka Sakazaki 2020 has been a great year for in the sense that I've had the time to fully get into Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. For me, it's something I regret not doing earlier because it is full of some amazing wrestlers from Miu, Miyu Yamashita...

Diversity in Wrestling Performers (Women Love Wrestling Book Excerpt)

Image
Hi guys, I'm back this week trying to stick to my promise of having more female wrestling-related content. This week, I'm posting an excerpt from my chapter in the book Women Love Wrestling. It is an amazing project that I was blessed to be part of which brought together writers from across the world to speak about their love and experience with women's wrestling. In an industry that is so male-dominated, this was a book for women, by women and about women. What makes it even more special is that all the proceeds are donated to a number of charities that support women.   So, here is a look at my contribution to the amazing book looking at Diversity in Wrestling Performers  from a UK perspective.  Every little girl dreams of being a princess, a superhero or in my case a badass international superspy. Wrestling is one of those professions where women can be a combination of all three. It is an industry where you can find a role model and see diversity, right? Unlike a ...

My Top 5 Female Wrestlers

Image
Hi guys, I feel like I say this every few months or so, but sorry for being slow on the content but I'm here now! So many wrestling news sites focus on men's wrestling. As a female wrestling fan and journalist, I am ashamed to say that I am one of those people. Because of my passion for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, I look at my blog and see a lack of female presence and articles - this is something I want to change!  As a woman in the industry (both as a journalist and a trainee), I want to make Wrestling Chatter a place that celebrates women in wrestling a lot more because how can I expect equality in the industry if I'm part of the problem. From now on, I am going to try my best to make sure that there is a lot more content on women in wrestling. Hopefully, it can make a small difference and help make people more aware of the amazing female talent there is across the world! So, without further ado, I thought I'd start by telling you who my top 5 female wrestlers are! Miyu...

Wrestlemania Reactions

Image
Hi guys, Well, we've just come to the end of not only the first ever 2-day Wrestlemania but also the first ever no-vacancy Wrestlemania and who would I be if I didn't do a review of both of the shows over the weekend? I didn't know whether to do this as a post or podcast but I'll probably do a brief overview in this post and then a more in-depth podcast about it all! Saturday Night  The first night of Wrestlemania started off with great promise. The Kabuki Warriors v Alexa Bliss/ Nikki Cross for the women's tag titles was a great way to start the show and was proof that you can have amazing matches without a massive crowd. As always, Asuka thrived in that environment and was able to really show off her personality as a proper heel with Kairi Sane which was the perfect antidote to their babyface opponents. The match combined technical, high flying and the chaos we all expected which was amazing despite the fact that the Kabuki Warriors lost.  ...

Wrestlemania 36 Preview

Image
Hi guys, Well, despite everything going on in the world, WWE really are going ahead with business as usual. It turns out that despite many protests from fans, they are going ahead with Wrestlemania without any crowds. They've also gone one step beyond that!  Now airing on both Saturday and Sunday (US time), WWE have followed New Japan's lead and made the biggest show of the year run over two dates! This means that there will now probably be nearly twice the amount of matches and whether that's a good thing or not, well we'll have to wait and see! I guess in one way you could see it as a replacement for NXT Takeover which always happens the day before Wrestlemania. Of course, with more matches, it means a lot more matches to preview and it's especially hard at the moment as we have no idea which matches are going to be on what day. So, I've decided to stray away from my usual match by match preview (because it will take me all week), and instead I...

Wrestling Isolation Guide

Image
Hi guys,  Well, what a few weeks it has been and personally, I can say I've been full of anxiety probably not helped by the news which has meant that I'm basically no longer watching main television and getting upset at certain people around me. However, there's always one thing that has helped me whenever my anxiety has been high... okay two things, but the main thing is: Wrestling! Even though many of our favourite promotions have cancelled shows in some way or another, so many promotions have given us content to not only lift people's spirits but give us a bit of escapism. So I've decided to do a list of all the promotions doing this and some of the best content to have a watch! 1. DDT Pro Honestly, out of all the promotions I watch, DDT have been the most prepared and really have given subscribers of the DDT Universe some amazing stuff to watch. Although a lot of shows were cancelled, they still gave us some amazing content. To start with, they ...

My Top 5 Heels

Image
Hi guys, Well, hasn't it been a crazy few weeks for wrestling. The Coronavirus stopped a lot of Japanese shows, Goldberg became the WWE Universal Champion and then was challenged by Roman Reigns, Chris Brookes wants to make Antonio Honda bleed and DDT's MAO wore shorts for the first time in what seemed like forever. I also had my first attempt at ring announcing and didn't completely make a fool of myself. Yet, in the midst of all that, I thought it was about time to get another list out. If any of you listened to my podcast last week then this will make sense, if you didn't then make sure to go and listen to it now (or after you've read this post). Basically, I spoke about the whole concept of being a heel and whether it's plausible or not in this day and age. My conclusion was pretty inconclusive but I think that wrestling isn't black or white. However, despite that, heels are a must in wrestling and I thought I'd have a look and see who my to...

The Forgotten Diva's Past

Image
Hi guys, It doesn't seem like a day or show goes by in WWE without someone talking about the Women's Revolution and how amazing the up and coming women wrestlers are. And they're right! Nowadays, female wrestlers are stronger than ever constantly putting on amazing matches with fellow women and even men. In WWE you've got the likes of Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Shayna Bayzler and Sasha Banks. On a wider scale you've got Britt Baker, Miyu Yamashita, Riho, Bea Priestly and Viper to name a few from across the world. All amazing women who have pushed the boundaries of women's wrestling into a new era trying to get to a point where they're seen as equals. However, have we forgotten or tried to disregard the past? Before this revolution, we had the divas division. A group of women who wanted to make it in the industry they loved and grew up watching, but weren't given nearly the same amount of opportunities. They were the show fillers, t...

My Top 10 Wrestling Valentine's

Image
Hi guys, Today is Valentine's Day if any of you didn't notice from all those soppy Facebook posts, shop displays and adverts on the television. For those of you who didn't guess, I'm single again this year but I'm not bitter - nope. So, instead of moping in my usual way, I thought I’d write a more light hearted post for all you today! I delved into the world of my favourite wrestlers and had to pick only 10 for this list. It's the wrestlers who are so adorable and make my lack of a relationship seem less heartbreaking *cue audience sympathy*. Because I don’t have a special guy in my life, I thought I’d write about the only guys who matter and that’s all my special wrestling boys who always make me smile. I mean who needs a boyfriend anyway... not me! Just a note, this post is no way meant to be serious, demeaning and in anyway objectifying any of the male wrestlers on this list because I really respect as both people and athletes, it's just for a ...
