Top Wrestling MVPs 2020

Hi guys, How crazy has 2020 has been? With everything going on in the world, it seems as if 2021 couldn't come any sooner. However, even with all of this negativity, I think it's vital to try and find some positives.  Despite conditions making it hard for the wrestling industry, many companies have thrived during the pandemic. In particular, some wrestlers have managed to make the best out of a bad situation and continue trying to put on shows for fans whether in person or through streaming sites.  To mark the end of another year, I'm back with my annual wrestling MVP list of the wrestlers who have stood out this year. Just a quick note, most of the stuff I've watched this year is Japanese wrestling (NJPW, DDT and TJPW)! Yuka Sakazaki 2020 has been a great year for in the sense that I've had the time to fully get into Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. For me, it's something I regret not doing earlier because it is full of some amazing wrestlers from Miu, Miyu Yamashita...

G1 Participants Preview - A Block

Image
Hi guys, If I thought that the world was going to shit and the fact that I've been an anxious mess, trust New Japan to make me feel slightly better about myself. Last week, NJPW announced the line-up for their G1 Climax 30 and it was something that just put a massive smile on my face. I was worried about what ti would look like because nobody knew about who was going to be allowed into Japan and restrictions on travel. Luckily, everything seems to be slightly back to normal and there are some huge names across the board. I've also done a quick video overview:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx_SFxoBZYM&t=52s  so make sure to give that a watch too! So, here is a look at the participants in this years A Block!  Kota Ibushi After failing to capitalise on his G1 victory last year, you can bet that the Golden Star is going to try and go for two consecutive wins. I mean if anyone can do it, why shouldn't it be Kota Ibushi? It's been an odd year for Ibushi from his loss a...

Taichi Appreciation Post

Image
Hi guys, Recently, I've had a lot of spare time and that means I have a lot of free time to watch more wrestling and as always New Japan is a must. However, recently, I've noticed something that makes me sad during some of the shows. It's watching Taichi matches and hearing the sound of たいち わ かえれ (Taichi wa kaere) echo across the arena. I mean, I just don't get it.  Taichi isn't the Holy Emperor for nothing and I just think that he deserves more respect and adoration from the crowds. So, for this week's post, I am going to write a Taichi appreciation post because he is my Holy Emperor and he should be yours too! 1. He is a Great wrestler I mean you don't become a 2-time IWGP Jr Heavyweight tag champion and 2-time NEVER Openweight champion without talent. As a Junior Heavyweight, he was this perfect combination of agility, speed and a lot of high-risk moves that just made my jaw drop to the ground. Even now, although his move set is so differen...

Review: NJPW New Beginning in Osaka

Image
Hi guys, Sorry for being so quiet recently, it's been a crazy few weeks and sometimes a girl needs a bit of a break to watch a lot of wrestling without writing about it. However, I'm back with another New Japan tour review and, after the huge Osaka-Jo Hall New Beginning in Osaka tour, I thought it was a great way to end an amazing tour. This tour ran alongside the US part of the tour, but it was these shows broadcasted on New Japan World. Going into the 'Road to' shows, we had some amazing matches. Obviously, going into the tour, we were aware of a few of the big matches to look forward to at the end of the tour including Jay White v SANADA, Jon Moxley v Minoru Suzuki for the US title, Roppongi 3k v El Desperado and Kanemaru for the Jr tag titles, Hiromu Takahashi v Ryu Lee for the IWGP Jr title and last but not least Naito v Kenta for the IWGP Heavyweight and IC title. These matches gave us some crazy teams from Jon Moxley teaming with the likes of Roppongi ...

NJPW World Tag League Preview (Part One)

Image
Hi guys, It's only been a week since the end of NJPW's Junior Tag League and we've already got the announcement for the next tour: World Tag League. For anyone who hasn't watched it before, it's basically the same as Jr Tag League but on a much bigger scale, with more teams and for heavyweights! It's always such a huge deal and the last major tour before the Tokyo Dome with some amazing teams participating, and this year is even bigger and better than before with teams from all factions and a lot of different promotions. What kind of wrestling blogger would I be if I didn't give you a preview of the tour. Because there are so many teams, I'm going to have to do it in two parts. So, welcome to part one of NJPW's World Tag League Preview! G.O.D (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) We can't have World Tag League without our tag team champions (even though that was actually the case last year). For me, the Guerillas of Destiny are the best tag ...

NJPW Destruction Review

Image
Hi guys, After the craziness of this year's G1 Climax and then Royal Quest in London, you'd think that NJPW would take a few weeks off. Nope. September came and straight away we delved into the annual Destruction tour. Because it's been such a long tour, I'll look at each section of it and hopefully it makes more sense and persuades you to watch the entire thing! The Road to... dates sometimes seem pointless to people. But, to me, they're so vital and some of the best shows of the card. With no real big matches, the wrestlers can have a bit of fun in the lead up to title matches and also we can see the start of new stories. It's the time where we can try and predict what's coming up and also see factions pitted against each other to gain supremacy! Even with no live English commentary, they are shows worth watching! Young Lion's Cup For anyone living under a rock, as well as the NJ matches, this tour's also seen the return of the Young...

Recap: Top 5 G1 28 Matches

Image
Hi guys, With the 2019 G1 tournament starting in a mere few days, I was wondering what the best way would be to really get you ready for the busy Summer season of NJPW. Whilst strolling through the NJPW archives, I stumbled upon a match that inspired me to do this match. Last year, I watched my first ever G1 and it was one of the best experiences ever because every match was so different and unique. So, here are my top 5 matches from last years G1. Kenny Omega v Yano Toru ( Night 16 - 8/8/18) This was the match that inspired me to do this post, because it made me realise how diverse last year was. For anyone who hasn’t watched it, Tama and the BC attacked Kenny before the match and Yano came running down trying to capitalise and, after a second attack from the BC, picked up the win. However, it was the match itself that made it so memorable and one of the best. Obviously Yano took off all the turnbuckles, but we had best friend Chase Owens making sure that Kenny was prote...

New Japan Cup Preview (Part Two)

Image
Hi guys, Welcome to part two my NJPW Preview of the New Japan Cup which starts on the 8th March! This post's going to have a lot bigger names that part one (which you can find here https://wrestling-chatter.blogspot.com/2019/02/new-japan-cup-preview-part-one.html ), and it's also got some match ups that I'm way too excited about. Just a note, I'm sorry this post is so long but I managed to have missed an entire day of matches! Will Ospreay v Bad Luck Fale When I heard that our own jr/ heavyweight hybrid Will Ospreay was going to be in the NJ Cup, I screamed slightly... but that scream faded when I heard his first round match is against Fale. I mean after Ospreay's win against Cobb, anything is possible especially when it comes to someone as talented as Ospreay. He can literally do anything he sets his mind too! For me, Ospreay being in this tournament is a great step forward for the Jr division and I can actually see him going so far . Like Chase Owens, Os...
