Top Wrestling MVPs 2020

Hi guys, How crazy has 2020 has been? With everything going on in the world, it seems as if 2021 couldn't come any sooner. However, even with all of this negativity, I think it's vital to try and find some positives.  Despite conditions making it hard for the wrestling industry, many companies have thrived during the pandemic. In particular, some wrestlers have managed to make the best out of a bad situation and continue trying to put on shows for fans whether in person or through streaming sites.  To mark the end of another year, I'm back with my annual wrestling MVP list of the wrestlers who have stood out this year. Just a quick note, most of the stuff I've watched this year is Japanese wrestling (NJPW, DDT and TJPW)! Yuka Sakazaki 2020 has been a great year for in the sense that I've had the time to fully get into Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. For me, it's something I regret not doing earlier because it is full of some amazing wrestlers from Miu, Miyu Yamashita...

All Elite Wrestling

Image
Hi guys, It feels like it's only been a few days since I last wrote about Kenny and Kushida leaving NJPW (because it literally was a few days ago) and, as I promised, here's a look at the new wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) including who's been announced to be on the roster and what AEW is doing for the wrestling business! It's been a massive announcement for all of wrestling and even though it's bittersweet because we won't be seeing the guys on NJPW or ROH, I'm so excited to see what the future holds for a company created by amazing wrestlers. Signings The Elite (The Young Bucks, Cody, Brandi and Hangman Page) I mean it's probably a bit obvious but I'm putting them in the list anyway because they had an official contract signing and everything on Being the Elite! It was always obvious that The Bucks and Cody would sign but I was a bit surprised about Adam Page and it's also a bit of a shame because I was loving...

Wrestle Kingdom 13 Reactions *spoilers*

Image
Hi guys, Before I get into this exciting post and possibly very long ass post - HAPPY NEW YEAR (right, we've got the formalities out of the way). So, if you've been reading this blog recently, you'll know that NJPW always gets me very excited and on Friday 4th Jan, we had the biggest event of the year at the Tokyo Dome... Wrestle Kingdom 13. I got a day off work and sat my bum on the sofa from 7am (after getting up at 6:30am) to watch an event with one of the most stacked cards I've ever seen from a wrestling show! All I can say is, wow! It was the first WK I've watched where I was fully into the company and all the storylines (last year was just Ospreay's match and Kenny v Jericho) and I was at the edge of my seat for every single match, also my prediction tally at the end was 7-3 (which is pretty damn good considering my past records).   So, here are my reactions to all 5 hours of Wrestle Kingdom 13 including the pre-show: Wrestle Kingdom started wit...

The Unofficial Guide to NJPW Wrestlers (part 1)

Image
Hi guys, I hope you can all guess what this blog post is going to be about and so I am going to introduce you to part one of my unofficial guide to New Japan Pro Wrestling wrestlers in one sentence. If it doesn't make sense (and I don't see how it doesn't) then here's a run down: I'm going to describe each member of every NJPW faction in one sentence. Just a note before you read it: take it all with a pinch of salt because they're not meant to be serious and I'm just having a bit of fun. Either you'll get my humour and laugh along or you'll hate me - it's up to you how you take it! I'll also be doing it in two separate posts because I know too much of my humour will be too much for some of you and it's also a lot to read so I'd much rather do two separate ones... so enjoy! Taguchi Japan (my favourite faction) Ryusuke Taguchi - Coach pervert who likes hitting people with his funky weapon ass Hiroshi Tanahashi - Dad with beauti...

All In changing the Game!

Image
Hi guys, It seems like you can't search wrestling without seeing the name 'Bullet Club' and it shows what all the members have done to build wrestling up to be more than just sports entertainment - they've made it a lifestyle. So, when Cody Rhodes, Nick and Matt Jackson (Young Bucks) decided to take a risk and put on a massive wrestling mega show, apart from a few critics, we were 'All In' (sorry about that pun)! They imagined putting on the biggest ever independent wrestling show with talent from all over the world, from different promotions, giving fans a completely different experience! Fast forward to the 1st September and All In became a real thing and set records and sold out in 30 minuted, something none of the guys expected but most of us fans knew would probably happen! After the announcement, All In stayed in the spotlight whether it was the guys announcing matches or the people who were going to be involved or keeping the hype alive on Yout...

G1 Final *spoilers*

Image
Hi guys, My last post basically summarised the last few weeks of G1 action and it all ended after a crazy 3 nights in Budokan! It's been an amazing G1 this year and the last three days didn't disappoint, so here's a look at the last 3 days of this years tournament and what the future holds for the company! The first two nights had the usual tag match/ block match setup! Night one started off well with some amazing tag matches, including LIJ v Suzuki Gun and Chaos v Taguchi Japan. The match most of us were looking forward to managed to be ruined by Tongan interference - the Bullet Club Elite v Bullet Club Elite in the lead up to Kenny v Kota. The match started off all fun and games but, before it could heat up, it ended in a no contest... it really just backs up my grievances with how they've done this BC OG v Elite storyline - I think I'm just done with it... Night two which was probably as crazy and mental as the first night, if not more! We started the ni...

G1 Special Review

Image
Hi guys, Coming off the hype I had last Sunday after the NJPW/ Rev Pro Strong Style Evolved Show, we had the G1 Special on Saturday (or Sunday for me). The card was announced before the show and it was stacked from the first to last match, from the title to non-title match - I mean they spoil us every single time! I mean it was probably one of the best wrestling shows I've ever watched from the start to the beginning, I mean there were some AMAZING matches but none of them disappointed me - the standard was just so high. From the get go, even the matches that didn't have a title on the line were amazing and I didn't have one match that I wasn't on the edge of my seat for. Starting with a 10 man tag between Chaos and Bullet Club was amazing because, even though the match was short, it did everything it needed to and showed off the guys to the best of their ability. We saw the athleticism of Roppongi 3k, the talent of the Tongans (still bitter and those of you w...

Pro-Intergender Wrestling

Image
Hey guys, I had a list of options for this next blog post saved in my drafts but, after seeing a tweet that read 'Attention Male wrestlers: please stop wrestling women. Not only does it kill Kayfabe, you are basically saying it’s okay to hit women' I thought it was time to weigh up on this long arse debate that's been going on for years. Intergender wrestling is something that hasn't been seen in WWE constantly or really at all, except maybe a few like Becky Lynch v James Ellsworth, and who prefer mixed tag team matches where men fight men and women fight women. Yet, it's more popular on the independent scene and it's one of the most exciting kind of matches to watch! Maybe the person who tweeted the comment I started with probably thought that he was being smart or respectful by having this opinion and slating the whole concept of intergender wrestling by trying to 'protect women'. I think they've misunderstood the whole idea behind intergender...

My favourite wrestlers (revisited)

Image
Hi guys, It seems like ages since I've been posting constantly because, as I keep repeating to people, university has a way of getting in the way of fun . However, it's not managed to stop be enjoying wrestling and, over the last few weeks, I've managed to broaden my wrestling mind and become invested in NJPW. This which has added another promotion for me to try and keep on top of. With that in mind, I thought it was time to update my favourite wrestlers and make it harder to make the list by combining all of the promotions together. Most are pretty cliche, but that's what happens when certain superstars reach the top of their game - they become everyone's favourite superstars! 1. Will Ospreay Will Ospreay is a name that will probably always be on this list because it seems as if Ospreay finds new ways to amaze me every time I see him wrestle. Like I can't tell you one bad match he's had because there aren't any - he can pull a good match out ...
