Top Wrestling MVPs 2020

Hi guys, How crazy has 2020 has been? With everything going on in the world, it seems as if 2021 couldn't come any sooner. However, even with all of this negativity, I think it's vital to try and find some positives.  Despite conditions making it hard for the wrestling industry, many companies have thrived during the pandemic. In particular, some wrestlers have managed to make the best out of a bad situation and continue trying to put on shows for fans whether in person or through streaming sites.  To mark the end of another year, I'm back with my annual wrestling MVP list of the wrestlers who have stood out this year. Just a quick note, most of the stuff I've watched this year is Japanese wrestling (NJPW, DDT and TJPW)! Yuka Sakazaki 2020 has been a great year for in the sense that I've had the time to fully get into Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. For me, it's something I regret not doing earlier because it is full of some amazing wrestlers from Miu, Miyu Yamashita...

My Top 10 Wrestling Valentine's

Image
Hi guys, Today is Valentine's Day if any of you didn't notice from all those soppy Facebook posts, shop displays and adverts on the television. For those of you who didn't guess, I'm single again this year but I'm not bitter - nope. So, instead of moping in my usual way, I thought I’d write a more light hearted post for all you today! I delved into the world of my favourite wrestlers and had to pick only 10 for this list. It's the wrestlers who are so adorable and make my lack of a relationship seem less heartbreaking *cue audience sympathy*. Because I don’t have a special guy in my life, I thought I’d write about the only guys who matter and that’s all my special wrestling boys who always make me smile. I mean who needs a boyfriend anyway... not me! Just a note, this post is no way meant to be serious, demeaning and in anyway objectifying any of the male wrestlers on this list because I really respect as both people and athletes, it's just for a ...

Recap: Top 5 G1 28 Matches

Image
Hi guys, With the 2019 G1 tournament starting in a mere few days, I was wondering what the best way would be to really get you ready for the busy Summer season of NJPW. Whilst strolling through the NJPW archives, I stumbled upon a match that inspired me to do this match. Last year, I watched my first ever G1 and it was one of the best experiences ever because every match was so different and unique. So, here are my top 5 matches from last years G1. Kenny Omega v Yano Toru ( Night 16 - 8/8/18) This was the match that inspired me to do this post, because it made me realise how diverse last year was. For anyone who hasn’t watched it, Tama and the BC attacked Kenny before the match and Yano came running down trying to capitalise and, after a second attack from the BC, picked up the win. However, it was the match itself that made it so memorable and one of the best. Obviously Yano took off all the turnbuckles, but we had best friend Chase Owens making sure that Kenny was prote...

All Elite Wrestling

Image
Hi guys, It feels like it's only been a few days since I last wrote about Kenny and Kushida leaving NJPW (because it literally was a few days ago) and, as I promised, here's a look at the new wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) including who's been announced to be on the roster and what AEW is doing for the wrestling business! It's been a massive announcement for all of wrestling and even though it's bittersweet because we won't be seeing the guys on NJPW or ROH, I'm so excited to see what the future holds for a company created by amazing wrestlers. Signings The Elite (The Young Bucks, Cody, Brandi and Hangman Page) I mean it's probably a bit obvious but I'm putting them in the list anyway because they had an official contract signing and everything on Being the Elite! It was always obvious that The Bucks and Cody would sign but I was a bit surprised about Adam Page and it's also a bit of a shame because I was loving...

2018 Wrestling MVP's

Image
Hi guys, First of all, Merry Christmas. Secondly, what a year 2018 has been for wrestling - there's been ups and downs but in the end of it, without wrestling, my life would've been very different. Wrestling really isn't what it is without the wrestlers themselves and there's been some right stand outs this year so here's my list of MVP's who have really stood out for me in a business that's full of so much talent! 1. Jay White Me and this blog have made no secret of the fact that Jay White is probably my favourite wrestler but it's not just my bias that's put him no.1 on this list - he's had a hell of a 2018! After coming back from excursion and losing his match against Tanahashi for the IC belt, he got back on course by joining Chaos and then beating Kenny Omega for the US title on the 28th January which he had great defences with against likes of Hangman Page and David Finlay. Even after losing the title, with the likes of the G1 wins ...

NJPW World Tag League Preview

Image
Hi guys, It's only been a week and a half since the end of Jr Tag League and in less than a week, we've got the start of NJPW's World Tag League (for the heavyweights). It's on a lot bigger scale than the Jr's with more teams and a lot more match ups between all the teams but I am still here to give you guys a little preview of this tour which is also a great lead up to Wrestle Kingdom in January! Since there's 14 teams competing (but in one block not two), I'm going to look at all the teams by faction to make it easier, then look at matches I'm most looking forward to and finally my predictions for the league as well as the other tag matches throughout.  Like always, the tag league is really Taguchi Japan (Main Unit) heavy because of how many people are actually in this faction! We've got a really interesting team of Young Lions Yoshida and Shota Umino which I'm so excited about because they're normally bitter rivals in tag matc...

All In changing the Game!

Image
Hi guys, It seems like you can't search wrestling without seeing the name 'Bullet Club' and it shows what all the members have done to build wrestling up to be more than just sports entertainment - they've made it a lifestyle. So, when Cody Rhodes, Nick and Matt Jackson (Young Bucks) decided to take a risk and put on a massive wrestling mega show, apart from a few critics, we were 'All In' (sorry about that pun)! They imagined putting on the biggest ever independent wrestling show with talent from all over the world, from different promotions, giving fans a completely different experience! Fast forward to the 1st September and All In became a real thing and set records and sold out in 30 minuted, something none of the guys expected but most of us fans knew would probably happen! After the announcement, All In stayed in the spotlight whether it was the guys announcing matches or the people who were going to be involved or keeping the hype alive on Yout...

G1 Climax MVP's

Image
Hi guys, This year's G1 has been so epic and it makes me wonder why it took me so long to find NJPW, but hey ho! I know I've touched upon how amazing the tournament matches were and how awesome the competitors were. But, throughout the 5 weeks, there have been a few of the wrestlers who really stood out for me and are my MVP's. Before I get into my list, there are some honourable mentions that I have to put in who, even though they weren't actually part of the G1, were out there every night and putting on great tag matches. Firstly, honourable mentions for Shota Umino and Roppongi 3k because Rocky has been immense on commentary and Shota, Sho and Yoh have competed at every event. I can't forget my boys David Finlay and Toa Henare who tried to bring the people the C Block (sighs of sadness) and Chase Owen's tagging with both Hangman and Kenny in some great matches - all three have to be part of next years G1! Now onto my main list: 1. Adam 'Hangman...

NJPW G1: The story so far

Image
Hi guys, It's been a crazy few weeks of this years NJPW G1 Climax and it's been so exciting for me because it's the first time watching this tournament when it happens! So, in the lead up to the final two block days and the final on the 12 Aug at Budokan Hall, here's my review of the last few weeks, including some of the highlights, the storytelling and what I expect from the last few days of matches! Even though I'll probably do another post with my top 5 matches of the ENTIRE G1, this tournament really has had some amazing matches in the first few weeks! We've had the pure beauty of matches like Okada v Naito, Ibushi v Ishii, Ishii v Kenny and Jay White v Tanahashi, which were all just pure brutal wrestling that made me want to hide behind my pillow. There's been matches that have surprised me at how invested I got into them like Sanada v Ibushi and Ibushi v Juice Robinson. I don't think there's been one match where I've been bored o...

NJPW G1 Climax Card

Image
Hi guys, After a solid few months of shows, including the amazing Dominion show and that Kenny/Okada match, we've got the NJPW G1 Climax starting on the 14th July. For people like me who haven't watched it before, the G1 Climax is basically a big tournament where competitors compete in two blocks in various matches. After the of the first set of matches, the winner from each block goes on to compete in one last match for a IWGP Heavyweight title defence - simple, right? I've watched odd matches from previous years, but after releasing more information, by god NJPW have knocked it out of the park with the competitors and matches they've booked choice. Here are all the competitors for this year's tournament in their blocks, and the first of the match ups! I mean can this get any more exciting - they literally have the best of the best from the roster and are putting them in matches we could have only dreamed about seeing. Obviously these are only the mat...

My Favourite Non-WWE Wrestlers

Image
Hi guys, I always write a lot about WWE and their wrestlers but, nowadays, you don't need to watch them to get your wrestling dose (sometimes there is even a better quality of wrestling away from WWE). I have to say that it wasn't until a year and a bit ago that I really got into other companies and I can't image my life without it now. You've got ROH, TNA, New Japan and the amazing UK promotions: Progress, Defiant, ICW, IPW - the list is endless! I know a lot of these wrestlers in the list seem a bit obvious and mainstream but they really are some of the best wrestlers in the world to me (not just because of their in ring ability but the whole package). I love a lot of other independent guys but these are the ones that I've really connected with the most and just love watching in the ring and out! Will Ospreay Will Ospreay is one of those wrestlers that you can't really take your eyes off when he's in the ring! The appropriately named 'Aerial Assa...
