Top Wrestling MVPs 2020

Hi guys, How crazy has 2020 has been? With everything going on in the world, it seems as if 2021 couldn't come any sooner. However, even with all of this negativity, I think it's vital to try and find some positives.  Despite conditions making it hard for the wrestling industry, many companies have thrived during the pandemic. In particular, some wrestlers have managed to make the best out of a bad situation and continue trying to put on shows for fans whether in person or through streaming sites.  To mark the end of another year, I'm back with my annual wrestling MVP list of the wrestlers who have stood out this year. Just a quick note, most of the stuff I've watched this year is Japanese wrestling (NJPW, DDT and TJPW)! Yuka Sakazaki 2020 has been a great year for in the sense that I've had the time to fully get into Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. For me, it's something I regret not doing earlier because it is full of some amazing wrestlers from Miu, Miyu Yamashita...

World of Sport Episode 1 - Review

Image
Hi guys, My last post was basically saying how excited I was to have World of Sport Wrestling back and how amazing the roster is. The first episode has just aired and, after some fear that it wouldn't live up to the hype, I am so relieved that the episode was pretty decent. Here's my review of the debut episode of WOS 2018 and just to note, there will be spoilers in this post - you've been warned! It was so nice to see Stu Bennett (or Bad News Barrett as a lot of people know him as) in this WOS Executive role, especially as it definitely seems as if he's keeping his well loved heel character alive. Bennett opened with a nice monologue about how he wanted to change the perception of British wrestling as being full of a bunch of baffoons - cue WOS Champion Grado strutting to the ring with a massive smile on his face! Everyone in wrestling has to have a soft spot for Grado and, being the heel, Bennett was quick to say how Grado wasn't the right fit for champ...

World of Sport Announcement!

Image
Hi guys, With the announcement of NXT UK, it really goes to show how big wrestling is in the UK and, most importantly, how high a quality of wrestling we have in this country. World of Sport is a show that my parents, and even my grandparents, remember so it was a massive thing when it came back. Yet, WWE being who they are, sort of stopped the show's momentum by signing a ton of UK talent to the UK division which meant that they couldn't go on for longer than one episode. A year on and, surprisingly, World of Sport is back for a new series this weekend with pretty much some of the biggest names on the British scene. This is pretty massive for British Wrestling in general because it's really putting a spotlight on British wrestling and hopefully change people's opinions on pro wrestling in general. I know so many people snigger or make fun of me when I say I love wrestling, but hopefully this is going to prove them wrong and show them the art of the sport! It...

New Japan Factions: Rated

Image
Hi guys, I think one of the things that is unique about New Japan is the importance of factions - Jay White said it perfectly in January after he returned from excursion, you need to be in a faction to get momentum in the company! All of New Japan's factions are so strong and important to the storylines so they're probably one of my favourite things about the company! In the midst of the G1 where faction loyalties are tested *or turned to ash ehem Jay White*, I thought it'd be a perfect time for me rate the factions and these are all personal opinions! 1. Taguchi Japan/ NJPW Main Unit I know people might think this is crazy rating but, by god, I love a bit of Taguchi Japan! I think these guys are such an underrated faction because they're never really at the forefront of storylines together, but the lack of drama and stuff shows how strong a faction they are. That's not even thinking about the members of the group who are some of the best in the whole compa...

G1 Special Review

Image
Hi guys, Coming off the hype I had last Sunday after the NJPW/ Rev Pro Strong Style Evolved Show, we had the G1 Special on Saturday (or Sunday for me). The card was announced before the show and it was stacked from the first to last match, from the title to non-title match - I mean they spoil us every single time! I mean it was probably one of the best wrestling shows I've ever watched from the start to the beginning, I mean there were some AMAZING matches but none of them disappointed me - the standard was just so high. From the get go, even the matches that didn't have a title on the line were amazing and I didn't have one match that I wasn't on the edge of my seat for. Starting with a 10 man tag between Chaos and Bullet Club was amazing because, even though the match was short, it did everything it needed to and showed off the guys to the best of their ability. We saw the athleticism of Roppongi 3k, the talent of the Tongans (still bitter and those of you w...

My NJPW/ Rev Pro SSE Experience

Image
Hi guys, Considering my last blog post was about NJPW, this post is a nice follow up because, on Sunday, I was lucky enough to go to the joint NJPW show run by Rev Pro at Altrincham Ice Rink which had some of the top New Japan stars and some Rev Pro talent. I found out last week that I was going to be graduating from university with a 2:1 in history, so it was the perfect way to end the perfect week of good luck, good weather and amazing wrestling! I guess it's easiest to start chronologically but without all of the boring bits. So, I got to the venue at about 1:30 for the meet and greet - it was pretty scary to start with because it was the first time I was going to meet any wrestlers and I was doing it alone. I'd paid £50 for the entry ticket and to meet my favourite Switchblade Jay White and Aerial Assassin Will Ospreay who, if you've read my other posts, will know are my two fave wrestlers. They are probably some of the nicest people (and badass in the case of ...
